How to Write with Light – Long Exposure Light Painting Photography

Writing with light is an easy and fun why to get into light painting. The best part is that you don’t need much to do it.

Here are the three things you will need.

  1. A camera that can shoot more than 10 second exposures.
  2. A Tripod
  3. A Flashlight or Cellphone light.

Now that you have the items listed, let’s paint!

In the video I show some tricks and techniques. The most important thing about light painting is to be patient and have a great time. Bring a backpack full of beer, grab some friends or your partner and start testing out different exposures, flashlights, and designs. There is nothing better than taking someone along that has never experienced light painting, having them stand in front of the camera, write something backwards, then show them the image on the back of the screen. That “Mind Blown” look on their face is what it’s all about.
